Mission 1 - A little info on indexing.

Hope you enjoyed your cuppa. PG Tips is the best. Wanna fight about it?? Fine..get lost and read someone else's blog.....ha ha I win. Oh the joys.

For those of you who are serial PG Tips drinkers here's a bit on Search Engine Indexing.

Method for those that have a mental capacity of a knat

1) Go to http://www.google.com/addurl.html
2) Put in your URL
3) Get Sandboxed. (Don't know what getting sandboxed is? Try buying a cat or asking the oracle of all knowledge).

Before you ask - yes I have done this method. My brain capacity has increased since. Stop laughing at me. Everyone was a noob at some point.

Method for those who have increased from mental capacity of a knat

Ok Search Engines crawl the web using something called a webcrawler (funnily enough). These web crawlers find links on websites and then follow these links to other websites. The sites at the end of them usually get indexed. See simples (Now where did that come from?) Now what you need to know is these links are called backlinks.

So what have you learnt??....Nothing. I suggest you follow method 1.

Backlinks are links from other peoples sites to yours. The Idea is to get links from pages with a high pagerank to yours. I am not going to go into pagerank just yet. I will touch on it later but all you know pagerank measures the importance of a website from 0 to 10 (being the highest). Basically it works like this.

Search Engines crawl high pagerank sites 3 or 4 times a day. When your link is added to these sites, search engines follow this link and jump to your site. What happens then....your site gets indexed! Now when searching google you should always try to get a link from a site with a page rank of 6 or higher. The reason for this is links from high pagerank sites get your site indexed quicker

How do I get my link on these sites???

The Article Method

OK say you have got a website about pig farming which has not been indexed yet. Write an article about pig farming and include your link at the bottom of the article. For Example http://www.thepigfamer.com. What you do then is post it on an article site. For Example eZines.com

When the Search Engine crawls the article website, they will follow the link at the end of your article and go to your website. Once crawled, your website will usually be indexed in a few days. The tip is to duplicate on other article sites. As a rule of thumb its always better to change your article slightly. Google likes that.

The Begging Method

For those of you that like to eat humble pie. Google the broadest keyword you can think of that your website relates to. Look for websites with that high page rank and find their contact information. Next you should send them an email asking if they will link you yours if you link to theirs. If you act in a professional manner there is no reason why they should refuse you....well unless of course you are a weirdo and they dont like you. But no one is perfect.

From a serious note - think of a good reason, be professional and you should not have too many difficulties.

Just a quick note. This article includes my own interpretation of the advice I have followed from Grizzly's website - The god of internet marketing.

There are other ways to get your site/blog indexed. Some pretty rapidly. What was important was that you understood that it takes backlinks from a high pageranking site to get your blog indexed quickly. Search arround on google and see what you can come up with. Failing that - I recommend SEO Elite (See top right of my blog). It costs a bit but well worth the money if you are into professional blogging.
